The India–Mauritius Summit 2025 marked a decisive moment in international trade collaboration, bringing together policymakers, diplomats, and industry leaders to strengthen economic ties between India, Mauritius, and African nations. Convened under the leadership of the India Africa Trade Council – Mauritius, the summit reinforced Mauritius’ role as a strategic bridge for Indian companies expanding into Africa and deepening two-way trade flows.

Leadership Driving Execution-Focused Trade Frameworks

The summit was led by Sangeet Sejpal, Honorary Trade Commissioner, India Africa Trade Council – Mauritius, who emphasized the need for policy-aligned, execution-driven trade frameworks that enable businesses to scale across borders with confidence and compliance.

“Mauritius is the gateway of Africa and a natural launchpad for Indian enterprises looking to access the continent,” said Sejal. “Its stable regulatory ecosystem, strong trade agreements, and access to over 50 African markets make it uniquely positioned for structured expansion. Building on this momentum, a delegation of Indian businessmen interested in first-hand interaction with African markets and in expanding their business opportunities is expected to visit in the last week of March 2026.”

Diplomatic and Global Trade Perspectives

The summit featured insights from Mookhesswur Choonee, former High Commissioner of Mauritius and Advisor to the Prime Minister of Mauritius, who highlighted the importance of diplomatic alignment and policy cooperation in strengthening India–Africa trade relations.

“Mauritius continues to play a trusted and strategic role in connecting India with Africa,” Choonee said. “Aligned policies and long-term cooperation are essential to unlocking sustainable trade and investment growth.”

Also addressing the summit was Asif Iqbal, President of the International Economic Trade Organization, who underlined the role of multilateral collaboration, trade innovation, and institutional partnerships in accelerating economic growth across emerging markets.

“Future-ready trade depends on collaboration between governments, institutions, and industry,” Iqbal noted. “Platforms like this summit create the alignment needed for sustainable global growth.”

Expanding Imports, Exports, and Market Access

Key strategic discussions focused on establishing and scaling businesses in Mauritius, government-backed trade facilitation, high-impact export collaborations, and innovation-led growth strategies. Participants noted that both imports and exports between India and African countries are expected to witness steady growth, supported by improved regulatory clarity, stronger logistics corridors, and increased private-sector participation.

Building Long-Term Trade Corridors

The India–Mauritius Summit 2025 concluded as a high-impact platform for leadership-level engagement and long-term economic alignment. The India Africa Trade Council – Mauritius reaffirmed its commitment to enabling businesses through structured advisory, trade facilitation, and market-entry solutions, positioning India and Mauritius as central pillars in Africa’s evolving economic landscape and global trade future.
