On the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day 2026, the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA), under the auspices of “The Y.J. Trivedi–AMA Academy for Intellectual Property Rights” hosted a roundtable discussion on “Sports and IP: Feel the Beat of IP” at AMA campus. The event explored the evolving intersection of athletic excellence and intellectual assets. The discussion brought together leaders from sports, business, law, academia, and media to exchange practical perspectives on creating long-term value through IP. Gopi Jatin Trivedi, Honorary Secretary of AMA and Senior Partner at Y J Trivedi & Co. delivered the opening remarks and Vineet Parikh, Director of Pima Controls Pvt. Ltd. and Vice President of TiE Ahmedabad, moderated the discussion.

The roundtable highlighted that modern sport is no longer confined to the field; the New Sports Ecosystem is a complex ecosystem involving media, wellness, data, and fan engagement. Participants noted that India has seen a massive shift toward sports as an economic opportunity, driven by private investments and sports startups.
A central focus was placed on identifying and protecting the valuable intellectual property inherent in successful sports properties including:
· Branding: Team names, logos, and event identities.
· Commercial Rights: Broadcasting rights and athlete image rights.
· Innovation: Training techniques, proprietary apps, and technology platforms.
· Digital Frontier: Content creation, data, and fan communities.
The dialogue specifically addressed Gujarat’s potential to emerge as a premier sports business hub. Experts discussed how local institutions and the private sector can collaborate to foster an environment where startups and academies benefit from “IP thinking” early in their development.
Unmesh Dixit, Executive Director of AMA presented the concluding remarks and stressed on the call for stronger collaboration across sectors to ensure that Indian sports organizations are as conscious of protecting their innovations as they are of winning on the field.
