Oyster Renewable Commissions 52.8 MW Wind Project in Gujarat

Oyster Renewable Energy Pvt. Ltd. has commissioned the second phase of its wind power project in Gujarat, bringing 52.8 MW of capacity online at Dayapar in Kutch. The project, comprising 16 wind turbines, has been developed for Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL) and began commercial operations on July 30.

The commissioning marks Oyster Renewable’s entry into Gujarat and forms part of a 99 MW wind project being developed for JSL in the state. The Gujarat facility is a key component of the company’s 315.6 MW solar-wind hybrid project for JSL, which also includes 216 MW of renewable capacity in Madhya Pradesh.

The newly commissioned phase represents an investment of around ₹385 crore, while the complete 30-turbine Gujarat wind project is expected to attract ₹725 crore. The overall hybrid project involves an investment of more than ₹2,000 crore, with ₹132 crore contributed by JSL.

The company said the facility complies with the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission’s Indian Electricity Grid Code, 2023, as well as the relevant technical and safety standards prescribed by the Central Electricity Authority, enabling it to begin commercial operations.

Commenting on the development, Siddharth Bhatia, Managing Director and CEO of Oyster Renewable Energy, said Gujarat’s strong wind resources make the project an important addition to the company’s renewable energy portfolio. Once the entire wind facility becomes operational, it is expected to help prevent nearly 92,000 metric tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

The remaining 14 turbines are scheduled to be commissioned in phases, taking the Gujarat project to its full 99 MW capacity and supporting JSL’s decarbonisation initiatives.
