Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has commenced operations of its strategic partnership with Tiki Tar and Shell through the joint venture Bharat Tiki Tar Shell Pvt Ltd (BTSPL).
The move follows the signing of a joint venture and share subscription agreement on June 26, 2026. Established in 2019 as Tiki Tar and Shell India Pvt Ltd, the company has now been rebranded as Bharat Tiki Tar Shell Pvt Ltd following BPCL’s entry.
The joint venture carries the tagline “Best Bitumen for Best Roads”. BTS represents the three partners and also stands for “Beyond the Surface”, reflecting its focus on innovative solutions beyond conventional surface protection.
BTSPL will manufacture, market and sell Value-Added Bitumen (VAB), including Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB), Crumb Rubber Modified Bitumen (CRMB), NRMB and bitumen emulsions. These products are increasingly used in national highways and airport runways for their durability, temperature stability and longer life. The company will also develop solutions focused on decarbonisation and waste circularity in road construction.
The partnership combines Shell’s advanced technology and global innovation capabilities, Tiki Tar’s six decades of product expertise and six manufacturing plants, and BPCL’s extensive sales and marketing network. Tiki Tar’s plants are located at Taloja, Halol, Palwal, Mangalore, Vizag and Pithampur.
The venture aims to tap India’s expanding road and infrastructure sector, supported by large-scale initiatives such as Bharatmala Pariyojana, while targeting government contracts, Public Works Department projects and major infrastructure developments.
Subhankar Sen, Director (Marketing), BPCL, said the partnership will help meet growing demand for durable value-added bitumen while combining the partners’ technology and expertise with BPCL’s pan-India sales network and customer platforms.
Raman Ojha, Shell, said the partnership combines Shell’s global expertise and innovation with Tiki Tar’s manufacturing capabilities and BPCL’s strategic strength, creating opportunities to transform India’s bitumen sector and promote more durable and resource-efficient road construction.
Pushp Kumar Nayar, Director of Human Resources, BPCL, said BTSPL brings together diverse expertise, talent and technology, with a focus on collaboration, innovation, excellence and sustainable value creation.
Manoj Menon, Chairman, Bharat Tiki Tar Shell Pvt Ltd, said the venture combines BPCL’s customer relationships and understanding of India’s energy and infrastructure landscape with the technical and operational capabilities of Tiki Tar and Shell. He said the company aims to become a trusted solution partner for high-performance, application-specific and sustainable bitumen solutions, supporting India’s infrastructure growth under the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Rajendra Shah, Director, Tiki Tar, highlighted Tiki Tar’s six decades of experience, six state-of-the-art plants, manufacturing capacity, market expertise and track record across major projects. Combined with BPCL’s market reach and Shell’s technology, he said, the venture is positioned to expand the value-added bitumen market.
