IOCL-led Nationwide Initiative Promotes Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Practices

Under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), in collaboration with fellow oil and gas PSUs—Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and GAIL—organized the grand inaugural ceremony of the nationwide fuel conservation campaign ‘Saksham 2025–26’ (Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav) at Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU), Gandhinagar.

The campaign, driven by the tagline “Conserve Oil & Gas, Go Green” (“तेल और गैस बचाओ, हरित ऊर्जा अपनाओ”), will be observed across Gujarat from February 1 to February 15, 2026, aiming to promote energy efficiency, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.

The  Minister of State for Law & Justice, Energy and Petrochemicals, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Gujarat, Kaushik Kantibhai Vekariya, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and officially flagged off the campaign from the PDEU campus. Addressing the gathering, the Minister urged citizens to actively contribute towards energy conservation and environmental protection, emphasizing the campaign’s role in strengthening India’s energy security and reducing dependence on crude oil.

The inaugural ceremony began with a welcome address by  Sanjib Behera, Executive Director & State Head (Gujarat), IOCL. The Saksham 2025–26 pledge was administered in Hindi by  Achint Bhavsar, State Head (Retail), BPCL Gujarat, and in English by Subhendu Mohanty, Chief General Manager (Retail) & Zonal Head, HPCL.

Special addresses highlighting the importance of fuel conservation were delivered by Biplob Biswas, Executive Director & Refinery Head, Gujarat Refinery, IOCL, and Prof. S. Sundar Manoharan, Director General, PDEU. The keynote address was delivered by the Minister. The event was further dignified by the presence of  MLAs  Divyash Akbari (Jamnagar) and  Mukesh Patel (Mehsana).

During the fortnight-long campaign, a series of outreach activities—including Saksham Cyclothon, Walkathons, debates, group discussions, fuel-efficient driving contests, LPG safety awareness programs, graffiti and wall paintings at six key locations, and technical seminars for industrial sectors—will be conducted across all districts. Additionally, more than 300 drivers at each State Transport (ST) depot will receive training to encourage sustainable driving and fuel conservation practices.

The campaign will conclude with a valedictory function in Ahmedabad on February 16, 2026.
