1. Retail inflation rises to 4.82% in August
India’s retail inflation accelerated to 4.82% in August, from 4.45% in July, strengthening expectations that the RBI may face pressure to tighten monetary policy if price pressures persist.

2. Wholesale inflation climbs to 9.92%
India’s wholesale inflation rose to 9.92% in August, from 9.78% in July, driven particularly by higher fuel and power prices, along with increases in food and manufactured-product costs.

3. India’s forex reserves hit a record $785.71 billion
India’s foreign-exchange reserves have jumped by $44.9 billion, reaching a lifetime high of $785.71 billion, strengthening the country’s external financial position.

4. Banks seek RBI approval over old trade mismatches
Indian banks have approached the RBI seeking permission to apply new regulatory and accounting rules to legacy trade mismatches. The move is aimed at resolving nearly one lakh unsettled transactions and bringing old records into line with the new framework.

5. Nokia plans bigger India manufacturing role
Nokia is looking to make India a larger manufacturing and export base for its global supply chain. Its Chennai facility has produced more than 8 million telecom units, with around 40–45% of output currently exported.

6. Maruti Suzuki crosses 1 lakh Japan-export milestone
Maruti Suzuki’s India-made Jimny, Fronx and e-VITARA exports to Japan have crossed the one-lakh-unit mark, highlighting the growing role of India in the company’s international production network.

7. NSE IPO set to become India’s biggest public issue
The National Stock Exchange is preparing for its IPO, with the issue reportedly valued at around ₹22,561.57 crore, making it potentially the largest IPO in India. The issue is scheduled for September 17–21.

8. India’s startup funding rises to $413 million
Indian startups raised around $412.81 million across 24 funding rounds between September 7 and 12, a 42% week-on-week increase. Pixxel’s $100-million Series C was among the major transactions.

9. Luminous plans ₹2,000-crore investment
Luminous Power Technologies plans to invest about ₹2,000 crore over five years as it targets threefold growth, with expansion planned in solar manufacturing, lithium-ion batteries and energy-storage capacity.

10. Indian Railways freight business records strong August growth
Indian Railways recorded 5.4% year-on-year growth in freight loading in August, reaching 137.9 million tonnes. Freight revenue increased 6.27% during the month.

1. Global AI stocks tumble amid calls for slower development
AI-linked stocks fell sharply across global markets after leading technology figures warned about the risks of rapid AI development. Nvidia, AMD, SoftBank and other technology companies came under selling pressure.

2. Oil crosses $108 as Middle East tensions hit supply
Brent crude climbed above $108 a barrel as fresh attacks and disruptions involving Gulf shipping and Saudi oil infrastructure raised concerns about global supplies.

3. US 10-year Treasury yield touches 5%
The yield on the benchmark US 10-year Treasury note reached 5%, its highest level since 2023, as rising oil prices and inflation concerns fuelled expectations of tighter US monetary policy.

4. China’s August bank lending disappoints
Chinese bank lending returned to positive territory in August but fell significantly short of analysts’ expectations, pointing to continued weakness in credit demand in the world’s second-largest economy.

5. Companies reconsider China-plus-one strategy
Some global manufacturers that shifted production away from China to avoid tariffs are reconsidering those moves. Difficulties involving skilled labour, supplier networks, infrastructure and operating costs are prompting some companies to return production to China.
