Gujarat’s Mega Growth Push: From Global Capital Hub to Trillion-Dollar Vision

Gujarat is cementing its status as one of India’s most attractive destinations for global investment, with over 100 Fortune 500 companies operating in the state. Addressing FICCI’s National Executive Committee Meeting, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel outlined an ambitious roadmap to scale the state’s economy to USD 3.5 trillion by 2047, declaring that “Viksit Bharat” is intrinsically linked to “Viksit Gujarat.”

At the core of this transformation is a powerful industrial and technological push. Gujarat is rapidly emerging as a key player in the global semiconductor supply chain, with two fabrication plants already inaugurated and a massive new facility coming up in Dholera.

Meanwhile, GIFT City is evolving into a high-tech nucleus, housing an AI Centre of Excellence, data centres, and advanced fintech infrastructure.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi highlighted the next wave of “sunrise sectors,” including data centres, semiconductors, defence, aircraft manufacturing, and Global Capability Centres. In a bold projection, he stated that Gujarat is set to install more data centre capacity in the next two to three years than the rest of India combined. Alongside Dholera, Sanand is developing into a major hub for semiconductor assembly and testing, supported by expanding infrastructure across Becharaji, Vadodara, and South Gujarat.

Gujarat’s growth story is also expanding beyond heavy industry into urban transformation. Ahmedabad is being reimagined as a vibrant entertainment and hospitality destination, with large-scale concert venues under development near Narendra Modi Stadium. New policies for concerts, expos, and hotels are expected soon, signaling a push to diversify the city’s economic landscape.

Sustainability and inclusivity remain central to the vision. The state is targeting carbon neutrality by 2050 while promoting women-led development, reflected in rising participation of women entrepreneurs under initiatives like Mudra Yojana.

Industry leaders from Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry reinforced Gujarat’s economic strength. FICCI President Anant Goenka noted that despite having only about 5% of India’s population, Gujarat contributes over 8% to the national GDP, more than 30% of exports, and handles 40% of the country’s cargo. Over the past decade, the state has sustained annual growth exceeding 10%.

Voices from industry further underscored Gujarat’s momentum. Pankaj Patel emphasized research as the key to future growth, while Pranav Adani highlighted major investments such as a billion-dollar copper smelter and the massive renewable energy project at Khavda, set to become the world’s largest of its kind.

With strong policy support, infrastructure depth, and a clear focus on innovation, Gujarat is not just riding India’s growth wave, it is actively steering it, blending industrial scale, digital ambition, and global partnerships into a formidable economic engine.

Strengthening the Growth Narrative

The sessions were moderated by Anant Swarup during the Chief Minister’s address and by Gokul Jaykrishna during the interaction with the Deputy Chief Minister, ensuring a dynamic exchange between policymakers and industry leaders.

As Gujarat accelerates its push across high-value manufacturing, digital infrastructure, and sustainable energy, the state is not just keeping pace with India’s growth story but actively shaping its trajectory.

FICCI at the Helm of Industry-Government Synergy

Driving dialogue, shaping policy, and amplifying industry’s voice, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry continues to play a pivotal role in India’s economic journey. Under the leadership of President Anant Goenka and a dynamic executive team, FICCI has evolved into a powerful bridge between government and industry, fostering collaboration that translates vision into execution.

With a legacy spanning nearly a century, FICCI’s functioning is anchored in proactive engagement, evidence-based advocacy, and a deep commitment to strengthening India’s industrial and entrepreneurial ecosystem. From convening high-impact forums to influencing policy frameworks and enabling global partnerships, the organisation remains at the forefront of driving competitiveness, innovation, and sustainable growth.

Through its focused initiatives across manufacturing, research and development, ease of doing business, and trade facilitation, FICCI continues to empower businesses of all scales while reinforcing India’s position on the global economic stage.

The gathering brought together a distinguished cross-section of industry leaders with deep roots in Gujarat’s economic ecosystem, reflecting a true “who’s who” of business and policy influence and Gujarat’s largest industrial conglomerates

The presence of these leaders, alongside senior policymakers and sectoral stakeholders, underscored Gujarat’s central role in shaping national industry discourse and highlighted the strength of its leadership across manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, energy, and emerging sectors.
