From the machines that shape precision components to the automation systems that power modern factories, India’s manufacturing sector is entering a phase where technology, productivity and smart infrastructure are becoming increasingly critical. Against this backdrop, the Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association (IMTMA) is set to bring together the latest manufacturing and factory technologies at Pune Machine Tool Expo (PMTX) 2026, co-located with Factory Equipment Expo (FACTEQ) 2026.
The four-day exhibitions will be held from September 7 to 10, 2026, at the Pune International Exhibition & Convention Centre (PIECC), Moshi, Pune. The announcement was made at a press conference in Ahmedabad.

Over 200 Exhibitors Expected
PMTX and FACTEQ are expected to bring together more than 200 exhibitors, providing manufacturers and industry professionals with a comprehensive showcase of technologies spanning the manufacturing value chain.
PMTX will feature machine tools, metal cutting and metal forming technologies, tooling, automation, robotics, metrology and digital manufacturing solutions, while FACTEQ will focus on factory equipment, material handling, industrial infrastructure, energy-efficient systems and smart-factory solutions.
The exhibitions are expected to attract OEMs, component manufacturers, MSMEs, factory managers and professionals from automotive, aerospace, general and heavy engineering, capital goods and other manufacturing sectors.
From Machines to Complete Manufacturing Solutions
The focus of the exhibitions goes beyond showcasing individual machines. With manufacturers increasingly looking for integrated solutions that can improve productivity, quality and cost efficiency, live demonstrations and direct interaction with technology providers will be a key attraction.
Jibak Dasgupta, Director General & CEO, IMTMA, said manufacturers today want to see technology perform as an end-to-end solution rather than simply evaluate individual machines.
“Live machine demonstrations, service propositions and direct engagement with technology providers will enable faster and more informed investment decisions,” Dasgupta said.
The exhibitions will therefore provide visitors an opportunity to experience technologies LIVE, compare solutions, interact directly with suppliers and explore potential technology partnerships.
Gujarat to Have a Strong Presence
Guru Prasath K R, Executive Director – Trade Fairs, IMTMA, said Western India, particularly Gujarat, is expected to make a strong contribution to the event. He said, “Western India, including Gujarat’s strong manufacturing ecosystem, will continue to be a healthy contributor to India’s engineering output. We expect strong participation from OEMs, component manufacturers, MSMEs and factory managers who are actively exploring automation, quality enhancement and cost optimisation. With more than 200 exhibitors showcasing the latest manufacturing and factory technologies, the Pune Expo is expected to attract over 18,000 business visitors. The expo will also create opportunities for business networking, supplier discovery, technology partnerships and industrial collaboration.”
He said more than 500 companies from Gujarat associated with the industry are expected to visit the Pune Expo, while around 25 Gujarat-based companies are expected to participate as exhibitors and showcase their products and services.
“Western India, including Gujarat’s strong manufacturing ecosystem, will continue to be a healthy contributor to India’s engineering output. We expect good participation from OEMs, component manufacturers, MSMEs and factory managers who are actively exploring automation, quality enhancement and cost optimisation,” Prasath said.
He added that the expo would create opportunities for business networking, supplier discovery, technology partnerships and industrial collaboration.
India’s Machine Tool Opportunity
Speaking about the industry’s growth potential, Mihir Baxi of IMTMA highlighted the significant gap between India’s machine tool consumption and domestic production.
According to the data presented by him, global machine tool consumption is currently around $83 billion, growing at approximately 4% annually, while India’s consumption stands at around $4.16 billion and is growing at about 12%.
On the production side, global machine tool production is estimated at around $86.11 billion, growing at approximately 3%, whereas India’s production is around $1.8 billion, growing at about 4%.
The figures, he said, underline the considerable headroom available for the Indian machine tool industry to expand, particularly as initiatives such as Make in India support the growth of domestic manufacturing.
Baxi also pointed out that a substantial share of India’s machine tool requirement is currently met through imports.
“Indian industry has a lot of room for growth. A large part of the industry is still working in an unorganised manner. IMTMA is working to bring more machine tool manufacturers into the organised ecosystem, provide training and awareness, strengthen their capabilities and give them a larger platform to showcase their products,” Baxi said.
He said a stronger and more organised domestic machine tool industry would help manufacturers achieve scale, improve representation and address industry issues more effectively with government agencies.
The ‘Mother Machines’ of Manufacturing
Speaking about the larger significance of the sector, Maulik Patel, Executive Director, SLTL Group, described machine tools as one of the most fundamental pillars of modern manufacturing.
The machine tool industry manufactures the power-driven machinery used to shape, cut, form and finish metals and other materials into precision components. Often referred to as the “mother machines”, machine tools are essential to virtually every major industrial sector, including automotive, aerospace, defence, electronics and engineering.
Patel said the Indian machine tool industry is currently estimated to be worth around ₹30,000 crore, underscoring its importance to the country’s industrial ecosystem.
“The machine tool industry is the backbone of modern manufacturing because it produces the equipment required by virtually every other industrial sector. Strengthening awareness, technology adoption and organised participation in the sector is therefore critical for India’s manufacturing ambitions,” Patel said.
He also highlighted IMTMA’s role in creating awareness, strengthening the metal cutting and metal forming ecosystem and supporting the industry’s overall development.
IMTMA: Voice of India’s Machine Tool Industry
Established in 1946, IMTMA is the apex industry association representing India’s machine tool sector. The association has more than 550 members from the public and private sectors, manufacturing a wide range of metal cutting and metal forming machines, sub-systems, accessories, cutting tools and related equipment.
IMTMA works towards the growth and development of the machine tool industry through policy advocacy, knowledge platforms, research, exhibitions, seminars, training and skill development.
The association views PMTX and FACTEQ as important platforms for connecting technology providers with manufacturers at a time when Indian factories are increasingly investing in automation, digitalisation, energy efficiency and advanced production systems.
